How to Remove the Laptop Keyboard

Removing the keyboard of a laptop is necessary if it is old or broken. The removal of the keyboard is also done for other fixture purposes. There are essential procedures to follow in the removal of the ACER 04-NF01KUS00-1 tKeyboard.These procedures are necessary to avoid damaging the laptop during the process. There are also different kinds and models of laptops. Different laptop manufacturers have different ways of placing the keyboard on the system board. Materials Needed:

- Laptop

- Flat head screwdriver

- Phillips head screwdriver

Step 1

Step 2

Determine the location of the keyboard cover. This is a plate for covering the screws of the keyboard. The keyboard cover usually contains LED lights indicating if the laptop is running or charging. It is commonly located on the top of the keyboard and just below the monitor.

Step 3

You can remove the cover by using a flathead screwdriver. Place the screwdriver in the right slot. Use the screwdriver as a lever to pull up the keyboard cover. There may be cases when the cover is attached to the hinge cover. There are screws attaching the keyboard cover to the hinge cover. Unfasten each screw at the back of the computer. Do this before pulling up the cover with the use of flathead screwdriver.

Step 4

The screws holding the  ACER 04-NF01KUS00-1 tKeyboard on the holding board will be visible after removing the cover. There may be 3 to 4 screws holding the keyboard in place. Carefully remove each screw using the screwdriver. Place these screws into different containers assigned for each of the screw slot. This is because sometimes, the screws are different in size from one another.

Step 5

Gently lift the keyboard in the direction of the laptop screen. This is to view all the wires and cable connected to the keyboard and the system board.

Step 6

Properly remove the data cable from the motherboard. Do this by gently pulling on the cable plug in a vertical direction.

Step 7

Look for other wires attaching the keyboard to the laptop after removing the data cable. Remove these other wires properly from the system board.

Step 8

Lift the keyboard from the laptop completely. Make sure there are no wires connecting the  ACER 04-NF01KUS00-1 tKeyboard and the system board before completely removing the keyboard.

Batteries Care Instructions

Battery Do’s:

A new ACER 4ICR17/65 Replacement Battery  comes in a discharged condition and must be charged before use (refer to the devices manual for charging instructions). Upon initial use (or after a prolonged storage period) the battery may require three to four charge / discharge cycles before achieving maximum capacity.

When charging the battery for the first time the device may indicate that charging is complete after just 10 or 15 minutes. This is a normal phenomenon with rechargeable batteries. Remove the battery from the device, reinsert it and repeat the charging procedure.

It is important to condition (fully discharge and then fully charge) the battery every two to three weeks. Failure to do so may significantly shorten the battery’s life (this does not apply to Li-Ion batteries, which do not require conditioning). To discharge, simply run the device under the battery’s power until it shuts down or until you get a low battery warning. Then recharge the battery as instructed in the user’s manual.

If the battery will not be in use for a month or longer, it is recommended that it be removed from the device and stored in a cool, dry, clean place.

It is normal for a battery to become warm to the touch during charging and discharging.

A charged battery will eventually lose its charge if unused. It may therefore be necessary to recharge the battery after a storage period.

The milliamp-hour (mAH) rating of the Hi-Capacity battery will often be higher than the one on the original battery. A higher mAH rating is indicative of a longer lasting (higher capacity) battery and will not cause any incompatibilities. A Hi -Capacity battery will, in most cases, outperform the original by 30% to 50%.

Actual battery run-time depends upon the power demands made by the equipment. In the case of notebook computers, screen brightness, the use of the CPU, the hard drive, and other peripherals results in an additional drain upon the battery, effectively reducing the battery’s run-time. Li-Ion

Li-Ion has quickly become the emerging standard for portable power in consumer devices. Li-Ion batteries produce the same energy as NiMH batteries but weigh approximately 35% less. How Can I Maximize Battery Performance?

There are several steps you can take to insure that you get maximum performance from the battery:

Break In New Batteries

New batteries come in a discharged condition and must be fully charged before use. It is recommended that you fully charge and discharge the new battery two to four times to allow it to reach its maximum rated capacity.

Prevent the Memory Effect

Keep the battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks. Exceptions to the rule are Li-Ion batteries which do not suffer from the memory effect.

Keep the Batteries Clean

It’s a good idea to clean dirty battery contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol. This helps maintain a good connection between the battery and the portable device.

Battery Storage

How Are Batteries Rated? (What Are Volts and Amps?)

There are two ratings on every battery:. Volts and amp-hours (AH) The AH rating may also be given as milliamp-hours (mAH), which are one-thousandth of an amp-hour (for example, 1AH is 1000mAH) . The voltage of the new battery should always match the voltage of your original unless the batteries are different chemistries (NiMH and Li-Ion batteries have different voltage ratings, even if they’re for the same laptop). Watt-Hour, or Wh, is a more accurate unit to show the power capacity than Amp-. Hour (Ah) that was used before. The Watt-Hour unit means the wattage that the battery can provide within one hour. 90 Watt-hour (Wh) capacity means the battery can theoretically last 90 hours if the device it powered only needs 1 Watt power, or 1 hour if the device need 90W power. A typical 6-cell internal notebook battery capacity is about 49 Watt-hour. A typical 12-cell internal notebook battery capacity is about 98 Watt-hour.

There are many different ways to rate a battery capacity on market. A lithium-ion battery cell capacity is usually measured in Ampere-hour (Ah). Since a battery pack battery uses many battery cells, some cells are connected in parallel, some are connected in serial, using Watt-hour will be more accurate to rate its capacity. If using Ampere-hour to rate its capacity, it should state the Ampere-hour capacity is under which given voltage. For example, 4000 mAh at 11.1V means the battery capacity is 4000 mAh x 11.1V = 44.4 Watt-hour (Wh). 4000 mAh at 14.8V means the battery capacity is 4000mAh x 14.8V = 59.2 Watt-hour (Wh). Although the two batteries have same Ampere-hour , their actual capacity is different.

How to Know When It’s Time to Replace Your Laptop’s Battery

No matter how well you treat your laptop’s battery, it will eventually die. If you’re lucky, it will be time to replace your laptop by the time its battery dies. If you’re not, you’ll need to replace the battery .

Calibrating Your Battery

The information above may not be completely accurate if your battery requires calibration. For example, we had a battery that reported it was almost dead. Windows warned us that it was time to replace the battery and the battery appeared to be at 27.7% wear level according to its reported capacity.

After we calibrated the battery, Windows stopped warning us and the battery’s reported capacity went back up to 70.8%. The battery didn’t actually gain any additional charge, but the calibration helped the battery’s sensor actually detect how much capacity was in the battery. If Windows says it’s time to replace your battery, be sure to calibrate it first before checking its actual wear level. If you don’t, you may replace a battery that’s still in good enough shape. That would just be a waste of money.

How to Clean a Laptop Keyboard

The good thing about having a laptop is that if it is too difficult to tilt the can of air you can always tilt your computer. Just be careful not to drop it.

If you feel comfortable doing it, you can also hold your laptop upside down over a trash can and tap on it lightly to dislodge any remaining debris that might be hiding in there once you’re done spraying.

Cleaning your laptop with the keys removed

If you’ve decided that you would like to take off the keys, use a knife or similar object to gently pop them off. Then store them in a safe place so that they don’t get lost. Even if you’re one of the confident ones, it’s still recommended that you leave the space bar and other larger keys in place. They are a real doozy to get back on due to their design.

Once you’ve pried all of the keys off of your laptop that you will be prying, place them in a small bowl, such as a cereal bowl, and add a couple drops of dish soap for hand washing to clean them with some light scrubbing. (Be sure to plug the drain if the bowl is in the sink.) Then follow the rest of the steps below while they soak.

Cleaning the rest of the laptop

Unlike a traditional desktop keyboard, your laptop has many more nooks and crannies that need to be cleaned, such as drives, ports and the touchpad. For any nook and cranny type areas, the best thing to do is just spray inside them with the compressed air. Remember that the air is pressurized so you don’t want to get too close to the surface or this pressure could damage your computer.

Wring out the cloth (water dripping into your machine, bad thing) and then wipe the keyboard top, sides and bottom. Letting your keyboard dry

Leave your laptop out so that it can dry. Do not shut the lid. Hopefully, since you used the water or cleaning solution sparingly, it should not take very long. If you removed the keys from your keyboard, you can set them out on the counter or table or wipe them dry with your cloth (if it’s not dry, use a new one of course). Then pop them back on when you’re sure that your machine and the keys are both fully dry.

Major Spill?

If you’ve had a major accident with some Starbucks and your laptop is swimming in non-fat latte, you may have to remove the entire keyboard in order to clean up the mess. With the motherboard screws removed you can lift the motherboard out of the case and now you have full access to both sides of the motherboard.
For this particular motherboard there is four screws holding the front bracket to the standard backing plate. Remove the four screws and put all the standard retaining hardware aside.
Here’s the motherboard free from all standard IBM 13N5182 CPU Fan hardware. Before installing the new aftermarket CPU cooler you have to clean the surface of the CPU. To remove the old thermal compound uses a lint free cloth and some rubbing alcohol. Be careful not to smother the CPU in rubbing alcohol you’ll only need a small amount on the cloth.

Apply a thin layer of thermal compound to the CPU surface. Some aftermarket coolers will come with thermal compound that features an application brush, some will come in a squeeze tube and some just in a sachet. If you get the later two then just apply a small amount of thermal compound in the center of the CPU (approximately the size on a grain of rice) and spread the paste evenly across the CPU surface. Use a business card to spread out the thermal compound evenly across the CPU surface until you have a semi transparent layer.
