How to Remove the Laptop Keyboard

Removing the keyboard of a laptop is necessary if it is old or broken. The removal of the keyboard is also done for other fixture purposes. There are essential procedures to follow in the removal of the ACER 04-NF01KUS00-1 tKeyboard. These procedures are necessary to avoid damaging the laptop during the process. There are also different kinds and models of laptops. Different laptop manufacturers have different ways of placing the keyboard on the system board. These methods of removing the keyboard may not be applicable or somehow different to other brands of laptops.

Materials Needed:

- Laptop

- Flat head screwdriver

- Phillips head screwdriver

Step 1

Turn off the laptop if it is running. Removing the  ACER 04-NF01KUS00-1 tKeyboard while the laptop is running may cause accidents.

Step 2

Determine the location of the keyboard cover. This is a plate for covering the screws of the keyboard. The keyboard cover usually contains LED lights indicating if the laptop is running or charging. It is commonly located on the top of the keyboard and just below the monitor.

Step 3

You can remove the cover by using a flathead screwdriver. Place the screwdriver in the right slot. Use the screwdriver as a lever to pull up the keyboard cover. There may be cases when the cover is attached to the hinge cover. There are screws attaching the keyboard cover to the hinge cover. Unfasten each screw at the back of the computer. Do this before pulling up the cover with the use of flathead screwdriver.

Step 4

The screws holding the  ACER 04-NF01KUS00-1 tKeyboard on the holding board will be visible after removing the cover. There may be 3 to 4 screws holding the keyboard in place. Carefully remove each screw using the screwdriver. Place these screws into different containers assigned for each of the screw slot. This is because sometimes, the screws are different in size from one another.

Step 5

Gently lift the keyboard in the direction of the laptop screen. This is to view all the wires and cable connected to the keyboard and the system board.

Step 6

Properly remove the data cable from the motherboard. Do this by gently pulling on the cable plug in a vertical direction.

Step 7

Look for other wires attaching the keyboard to the laptop after removing the data cable. Remove these other wires properly from the system board.

Step 8

Lift the keyboard from the laptop completely. Make sure there are no wires connecting the  ACER 04-NF01KUS00-1 tKeyboard and the system board before completely removing the keyboard.

Protecting a ACER 002 -07A 23L -A01 Keyboard

Liquids can be a health hazard for laptop keyboards and can cause irreparable damage to your most valued possession. Although persistently advised to avoid keeping all forms of provisions and beverages at a close proximity to your laptop, some users have a habit of not paying any attention to such crucial information. Depending on the constituents of the proposed fluid a simple spill can become your worst nightmare as your system and keyboard will most likely not function or act like its former self. There are however certain solutions to protecting that cherished laptop keyboard from being exposed to liquid spills and having other substances fall on it… Buy a laptop keyboard cover (which is covered in the next section of the article).

We are all well aware of the fact that without a keyboard, a laptop is just a screen with lots of words on it. They keyboard allows computer users to type and move around on the screen. Therefore, the keyboard is an essential part of a good working laptop. To protect a laptop keyboard, the most important thing for computer users to do is, avoid the temptation of eating or drinking around a laptop (see precaution #2). Computer users can prevent liquid spills by ensuring their working space has no liquids that can spill over and on to the keyboard.

Advice: If a liquid spill occurs, immediately shutdown the laptop, unplug it and wipe off any visible spill from the  ACER 002 -07A 23L -A01 Keyboard as well as all other laptop components. Wait for the remaining liquid to dry. If the keyboard is damaged, bring it in for repair. A PC tech may be able to fix what was damaged. If not, another option would be find a compatible replacement (an external keyboard). The worst scenario would be needing to buy a new laptop with keyboard functions.

Here are a few precautions to help computer users understand the fundamental protection techniques of a laptop’s keyboard:

Avoid placing too much pressure on the keyboard caps as they may get damaged or break after extensive abuse.

Avoid placing liquids (like water or soda) and food near the keyboard as it may spill over or fall on to the laptop’s keyboard, which could permanently damage it.

Avoid buying a laptop cover that is not capable of protecting the entire keyboard (i.e., all keys, touch pad and wrist area).

Advice: The most sensitive part of a laptop keyboard may be the touch pad, so again refrain from placing any unnecessary pressure on the laptop’s keyboard surface.

Tip: The best way to protect a  ACER 002 -07A 23L -A01 Keyboard is to ensure no liquid spills, food, or dust gets in between the key caps. It is also a good idea for computer users to refrain from applying too much pressure on the key caps when they use it (for typing, gaming, navigating, and so on).

Battery Knowledge Tips & FAQ

Batteries Care Instructions

Battery Do’s:

A new ACER 4ICR17/65 Replacement Battery  comes in a discharged condition and must be charged before use (refer to the devices manual for charging instructions). Upon initial use (or after a prolonged storage period) the battery may require three to four charge / discharge cycles before achieving maximum capacity.

When charging the battery for the first time the device may indicate that charging is complete after just 10 or 15 minutes. This is a normal phenomenon with rechargeable batteries. Remove the battery from the device, reinsert it and repeat the charging procedure.

It is important to condition (fully discharge and then fully charge) the battery every two to three weeks. Failure to do so may significantly shorten the battery’s life (this does not apply to Li-Ion batteries, which do not require conditioning). To discharge, simply run the device under the battery’s power until it shuts down or until you get a low battery warning. Then recharge the battery as instructed in the user’s manual.

If the battery will not be in use for a month or longer, it is recommended that it be removed from the device and stored in a cool, dry, clean place.

It is normal for a battery to become warm to the touch during charging and discharging.

A charged battery will eventually lose its charge if unused. It may therefore be necessary to recharge the battery after a storage period.

The milliamp-hour (mAH) rating of the Hi-Capacity battery will often be higher than the one on the original battery. A higher mAH rating is indicative of a longer lasting (higher capacity) battery and will not cause any incompatibilities. A Hi -Capacity battery will, in most cases, outperform the original by 30% to 50%.

Actual battery run-time depends upon the power demands made by the equipment. In the case of notebook computers, screen brightness, the use of the CPU, the hard drive, and other peripherals results in an additional drain upon the battery, effectively reducing the battery’s run-time. The total run-time of the battery is also heavily dependent upon the design of the equipment. To ensure maximum performance of the battery, optimize the computer’s power management features. Refer to the computer manual for further instructions.

Battery Don’ts:

Do not short-circuit. A short-circuit may cause severe damage to the battery.

Do not drop, hit or otherwise abuse the ACER 4ICR17/65 Replacement Battery as this may result in the exposure of the cell contents, which are corrosive.

Do not expose the battery to moisture or rain.

Keep battery away from fire or other sources of extreme heat. Do not incinerate. Exposure of battery to extreme heat may result in an explosion.

General Battery Information

What Are The Different Types of Rechargeable Battery Chemistries / Technologies?

Batteries in portable consumer devices (laptops and notebooks, camcorders, cellular phones, etc.) Are principally made using either Nickel Cadmium (NiCad), Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) or Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) technologies. Each type of rechargeable battery technology has its own unique characteristics:

NiCad and NiMH:

The main difference between the two is the fact that NiMH batteries (the newer of the two technologies) offer higher energy densities than NiCads. In other words, pound for pound, NiMH delivers approximately twice the capacity of its NiCad counterpart. What this translates into . is increased run-time from the battery with no additional bulk to weigh down your portable device NiMH also offers another major advantage: NiCad batteries tend to suffer from what is called the “memory effect” NiMH batteries are less prone to develop this dreaded. affliction and thus require less maintenance and care. NiMH batteries are also more environmentally friendly than their NiCad counterparts since they do not contain heavy metals (which present serious landfill problems).

ACER 4ICR17/65 Laptop Battery

Li-Ion has quickly become the emerging standard for portable power in consumer devices. Li-Ion batteries produce the same energy as NiMH batteries but weigh approximately 35% less. This is crucial in applications such as camcorders or notebook computers where the battery makes up a significant portion of the device’s weight. Another reason Li-Ion batteries have become so popular is that they do not suffer from the memory effect AT ALL. They are also environmentally friendly because they don’t contain toxic materials such as Cadmium or Mercury.

What is the “Memory Effect”?

NiCad batteries, and to a lesser extent NiMH batteries, suffer from what’s called the “memory effect”. What this means is that if a battery is repeatedly only partially discharged before recharging, the battery “forgets” that it has the capacity to further discharge all the way down To illustrate:. If you, on a regular basis, fully charge your battery and then use only 50% of its capacity before the next recharge, eventually the battery will become unaware of its extra 50% capacity which has remained unused . The battery will remain functional, but only at 50% of its original capacity. The way to avoid the dreaded “memory effect” is to fully cycle (fully charge and then fully discharge) the battery at least once every two to three weeks. Batteries can be discharged by unplugging the device’s AC adapter and letting the device run on the battery until it ceases to function. This will insure your battery remains healthy.

Is it Possible to Upgrade the Device’s Battery to a Newer Chemistry?

NiCad, NiMH and Li-Ion are all fundamentally different from one another and cannot be substituted unless the device has been pre-configured from the factory to accept more than one type of rechargeable battery technology. The difference between them stems from the fact that each type requires a different charging pattern to be properly recharged. Therefore, the portable device’s internal charger must be properly configured to handle a given type of rechargeable battery.

Refer to the owners manual to find out which rechargeable battery types the particular device supports or use our QuickFind search engine to find the device in our database. It will automatically list all of the battery types supported by the machine.

The New Battery Isn’t Charging. What’s the Deal?

New batteries are shipped in a discharged condition and must charged before use We generally recommend an overnight charge (approximately twelve hours) Refer to the user’s manual for charging instructions Rechargeable batteries should be cycled -… Fully charged and then fully discharged – two to four times initially to allow them to reach their full capacity (Note: it is normal for a battery to become warm to the touch during charging and discharging)..

New batteries are hard for the device to charge;.. They have never been fully charged and are therefore “unformed” Sometimes the device’s charger will stop charging a new battery before it is fully charged If this happens, remove the battery from the device and .. then reinsert it The charge cycle should begin again This may happen several times during the first battery charge Don’t worry;. it’s perfectly normal.

How Can I Maximize Battery Performance?

There are several steps you can take to insure that you get maximum performance from the battery:

Break In New Batteries

New batteries come in a discharged condition and must be fully charged before use. It is recommended that you fully charge and discharge the new battery two to four times to allow it to reach its maximum rated capacity.

Prevent the Memory Effect

Keep the battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks. Exceptions to the rule are Li-Ion batteries which do not suffer from the memory effect.

Keep the Batteries Clean

It’s a good idea to clean dirty battery contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol. This helps maintain a good connection between the battery and the portable device.

Exercise the ACER 4ICR17/65 Replacement Battery

Do not leave the battery dormant for long periods of time. We recommend using the battery at least once every two to three weeks. If a battery has not been used for a long period of time, perform the new battery break in procedure described above.

Battery Storage

If you don’t plan on using the battery for a month or more, we recommend storing it in a clean, dry, cool place away from heat and metal objects NiCad, NiMH and Li-Ion batteries will self-discharge during storage; remember to break them in before use. Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries must be kept at full charge during storage. This is usually achieved by using special trickle chargers. If you do not have a trickle charger, do not attempt to store SLA batteries for more than three months.

For Notebook Users

To get maximum performance from the ACER 4ICR17/65 Replacement Battery, fully optimize the notebooks power management features prior to use Power management is a trade off: better power conservation in exchange for lesser computer performance The power management system conserves battery power by setting the processor to run at. a slower speed, dimming the screen, spinning down the hard drive when it’s not in use and causing the machine to go into sleep mode when inactive. The notebook users guide will provide information relating to specific power management features.

ACER 4ICR17/65 Laptop Battery

How Are Batteries Rated? (What Are Volts and Amps?)

There are two ratings on every battery:. Volts and amp-hours (AH) The AH rating may also be given as milliamp-hours (mAH), which are one-thousandth of an amp-hour (for example, 1AH is 1000mAH) . The voltage of the new battery should always match the voltage of your original unless the batteries are different chemistries (NiMH and Li-Ion batteries have different voltage ratings, even if they’re for the same laptop). Some Hi-Capacity batteries will have higher amp-hour ratings than the original battery found in the device. This is indicative of a longer run-time (higher capacity) and will not cause any incompatibilities.

New Rating Watt-Hour (Wh):

Watt-Hour, or Wh, is a more accurate unit to show the power capacity than Amp-. Hour (Ah) that was used before. The Watt-Hour unit means the wattage that the battery can provide within one hour. 90 Watt-hour (Wh) capacity means the battery can theoretically last 90 hours if the device it powered only needs 1 Watt power, or 1 hour if the device need 90W power. A typical 6-cell internal notebook battery capacity is about 49 Watt-hour. A typical 12-cell internal notebook battery capacity is about 98 Watt-hour.

There are many different ways to rate a battery capacity on market. A lithium-ion battery cell capacity is usually measured in Ampere-hour (Ah). Since a battery pack battery uses many battery cells, some cells are connected in parallel, some are connected in serial, using Watt-hour will be more accurate to rate its capacity. If using Ampere-hour to rate its capacity, it should state the Ampere-hour capacity is under which given voltage. For example, 4000 mAh at 11.1V means the battery capacity is 4000 mAh x 11.1V = 44.4 Watt-hour (Wh). 4000 mAh at 14.8V means the battery capacity is 4000mAh x 14.8V = 59.2 Watt-hour (Wh). Although the two batteries have same Ampere-hour , their actual capacity is different.

How Long Do Batteries Last (What is the Life Span of the New ACER 4ICR17/65 Replacement Battery)?

The life of a rechargeable battery operating under normal conditions is generally around 500 charge-discharge cycles. This translates into one and a half to three years of battery life for the average user. The amount of charge a battery can hold gradually decreases due to usage and aging. When a battery that originally operated the notebook for two hours is only supplying the user with an hour’s worth of use, it’s time for a new one.

Battery Life Expectations:

Battery operating time is affected by:

Types of power conservation features activated on the computer

Computer’s type of display and microprocessor

Number and type of PC Cards and other devices used

Types of application programs running

Should I Recycle the Old Battery? How?

NiCad, NiMH and Li-Ion batteries should be recycled Be environmentally conscious -. Do NOT throw these batteries in the trash.

If you don’t know where your local recycling facility is, call the Portable Rechargeable Battery Association at 1-800-822-8837. They will provide you with the address of the recycling center nearest to you. Is it Possible to Upgrade the Device’s Battery to a Newer Chemistry?

What is a “smart” ACER 4ICR17/65 Replacement Battery?

Smart batteries have internal circuit boards with smart chips which allow them to communicate with the notebook and monitor battery performance, output voltage and temperature. Smart batteries will generally run 15% longer due to their increased efficiency and also give the computer much more accurate “fuel gauge “capabilities to determine how much battery running time is left before the next recharge is required.

How to Know When It’s Time to Replace Your Laptop’s Battery

No matter how well you treat your laptop’s battery, it will eventually die. If you’re lucky, it will be time to replace your laptop by the time its battery dies. If you’re not, you’ll need to replace the battery .

ACER W84066LC Replacement Battery  death can seem sudden, but it doesn’t have to. Windows will warn you when your battery reaches extremely low capacity levels, but you can also keep your own tabs on its capacity.

Windows Will Warn You

Windows doesn’t normally keep you up-to-date with your battery’s capacity level. As you use it and it weakens, you’ll just notice that your laptop doesn’t seem to last as long on battery.

Eventually, when your battery reaches a low enough capacity level, Windows will warn you. You’ll see a red X appear on the standard battery icon in your system tray and, when you click it, Windows will inform you that you should “consider replacing your battery “Windows also says that your computer might shut down suddenly because there’s a problem with your battery -. in other words, your battery can’t hold enough of a charge to power your laptop for long when it’s not connected to an outlet .

Note that this warning was added in Windows 7, so you won’t see it if you’re using Windows Vista or XP.

ACER W84066LC Laptop Battery

How to Check Your ACER W84066LC Replacement Battery  Capacity

Some batteries may display more information, such as the number of charge and discharge cycles they’ve been through.

Calibrating Your Battery

The information above may not be completely accurate if your battery requires calibration. For example, we had a battery that reported it was almost dead. Windows warned us that it was time to replace the battery and the battery appeared to be at 27.7% wear level according to its reported capacity.

After we calibrated the battery, Windows stopped warning us and the battery’s reported capacity went back up to 70.8%. The battery didn’t actually gain any additional charge, but the calibration helped the battery’s sensor actually detect how much capacity was in the battery. If Windows says it’s time to replace your battery, be sure to calibrate it first before checking its actual wear level. If you don’t, you may replace a battery that’s still in good enough shape. That would just be a waste of money.

Why Your Laptop’s Battery Capacity Declines

ACER W84066LC Replacement Battery decline due to a number of factors Heat, usage, age -. All of these things are bad for batteries Batteries will slowly die no matter what -. Even if you put your battery in a closet and never touched it, it would slowly lose capacity due to age However, if you never use your battery -. say you use your laptop at your desk most of the time and it gets rather hot, which is bad for the battery – removing the battery can certainly help prolong its life.

To make your laptop’s battery last longer, read our explanation of battery life myths and facts to know what works and what doesn’t.

Replacing Your Battery

If your laptop has a user-serviceable battery – that is, one you can remove on your own -. You can replace your battery fairly easily If your laptop doesn’t have a user-serviceable battery, you’ll need to contact the laptop’s manufacturer so they can crack your laptop open and change its battery for you.

There’s no point in obsessing over your battery’s capacity – it was designed to be used, after all -. But it’s something to keep on eye on If your capacity is dropping more quickly than you’d like, that may be a sign that you should be treating your battery better. Perhaps you’re exposing it to too much heat if you leave your battery in while playing demanding, strenuous PC games on your laptop.

How to Clean a Laptop Keyboard

Before you start cleaning your TOSHIBA K000029390  Keyboard, make sure it is unplugged and powered off. (It is always better to have a dirty laptop than to shock yourself or ruin your machine during the cleaning process.) Also, remove the mouse, any discs or CDs, USB drives and anything else that is protruding from your machine.

The process you will use to clean your laptop has to do with how ambitious you are feeling at the time and how hardy your machine happens to be. For example, on some machines it is easy to pop the keys off and put them back on. But on others, it is about as simple as performing brain surgery. In other words, if you’re not confident that you can get the keys back on your laptop’s keyboard, do not take them off. You will still be able to clean your laptop pretty well. Not sure? Check the owner’s manual.

Cleaning your laptop with the keys intact If you’ve elected to take the easy road and leave the keys attached to your laptop, you can clean in between them by using a can of compressed air. Be aware that a can of compressed air does not simply contain air but contains a toxic chemical. So be careful when handling it and never hold the bottle upside down. Just tilt it at an angle two or three inches away from your key board as you direct the air between the keys. The good thing about having a laptop is that if it is too difficult to tilt the can of air you can always tilt your computer. Just be careful not to drop it.

If you feel comfortable doing it, you can also hold your laptop upside down over a trash can and tap on it lightly to dislodge any remaining debris that might be hiding in there once you’re done spraying.

TOSHIBA K000029390 Laptop Keyboard

Cleaning your laptop with the keys removed

If you’ve decided that you would like to take off the keys, use a knife or similar object to gently pop them off. Then store them in a safe place so that they don’t get lost. Even if you’re one of the confident ones, it’s still recommended that you leave the space bar and other larger keys in place. They are a real doozy to get back on due to their design.

Once you’ve pried all of the keys off of your laptop that you will be prying, place them in a small bowl, such as a cereal bowl, and add a couple drops of dish soap for hand washing to clean them with some light scrubbing. (Be sure to plug the drain if the bowl is in the sink.) Then follow the rest of the steps below while they soak.

Cleaning the rest of the laptop

Unlike a traditional desktop keyboard, your laptop has many more nooks and crannies that need to be cleaned, such as drives, ports and the touchpad. For any nook and cranny type areas, the best thing to do is just spray inside them with the compressed air. Remember that the air is pressurized so you don’t want to get too close to the surface or this pressure could damage your computer.

For the rest of the TOSHIBA K000029390 Keyboard, such as the touchpad, you can use a cloth that will not leave fuzz, such as an old t-shirt or handkerchief, a microfiber cloth, or one made specifically for electronics.

Dampen the cloth by dipping it in a solution of half lukewarm water and half isopropyl alcohol, a bowl of lukewarm water with a drop of dish detergent for hand washing, or just lukewarm water if your laptop is not that dirty. Wring out the cloth (water dripping into your machine, bad thing) and then wipe the keyboard top, sides and bottom. If you’re having trouble cleaning a tight area, such as where the monitor meets the keyboard, you can use a cotton swab. Just be careful that the swab doesn’t shed.

*You can also use electronics cleaner of course. Always spray it on the cloth, not the machine.

If you have the little rubber nub in the middle of your TOSHIBA K000029390 Keyboard, known as the pointer, you can remove it from the keyboard and drop it in the cleaning solution or give it a quick onceover with an old toothbrush to remove any gunk from the grooves.

Letting your keyboard dry

Leave your laptop out so that it can dry. Do not shut the lid. Hopefully, since you used the water or cleaning solution sparingly, it should not take very long. If you removed the keys from your keyboard, you can set them out on the counter or table or wipe them dry with your cloth (if it’s not dry, use a new one of course). Then pop them back on when you’re sure that your machine and the keys are both fully dry.

Never plug in and/or turn on your machine until you are positive that it has dried completely.

Major Spill?

If you’ve had a major accident with some Starbucks and your laptop is swimming in non-fat latte, you may have to remove the entire keyboard in order to clean up the mess. Of course, this is easier said than done. Consult the owner’s manual or call the manufacturer to determine your best course of action in this situation.

Keeping your laptop’s keyboard clean

Of course, there is no way your laptop will remain spotless with regular use, but you can attempt to keep it from harm by not eating or drinking in its presence. Also, try to find a non-dusty area in which to use it. Not only is this better for your computer, it’s also better for your lungs.

How to Make Laptop Screens Readable Outdoors

It’s a beautiful day outside and you’ve got a laptop. Why not trade in your office for your backyard? It sounds lovely until you actually sit down and realize that the sunlight that drew you out is also making your TOSHIBA P000441840 Laptop Screen impossible to see. If you’d like to sit outside and type to the tune of the whistling birds and the sit amidst the warm breeze, here is how to improve the outdoor laptop experience.

TOSHIBA P000441840 Laptop Screen

1.Use a laptop with a matte screen. If you have a choice among laptops, or if you’re shopping and want to keep your penchant for the outdoors in mind, look for laptops with screens that have a matte finish. Those with a glossy finish might look nicer indoors, but they’ll reflect the sun all too well if you take them outside.

2.Work in the shade. Either find a spot under a tree, or set up a large beach umbrella. Not only will this make your laptop screen easier to see, but it’ll also keep your TOSHIBA P000441840 Laptop Screen from overheating (especially if it’s black). If you’d rather keep your body in the sun, keep only the laptop in the shade, and wear a hat with a brim to keep the sun from shining right in your eyes.

3.Hike up the luminosity (brightness) in your laptop’s display settings. And since high luminosity usually means high power consumption (screens need the most energy in a laptop) you’ll probably need to depend on an outlet, rather than a laptop battery. Bring an extension cord.

4.Consider either buying or making a ‘laptop hood’. This is white on the outside (to reduce heat buildup) and black on the inside (to reduce glare).

5.Wear a dark colored shirt, it will not reflect the sunlight onto the display.

How to Clean a CPU Fan

How to Clean a CPU Fan
Failing to clean your IBM 42X3805  CPU Fan can cause the fan to either slow down or to fail completely. If the fan fails, then the temperatures inside the CPU case will significantly increase, which creates the potential for overheating. The easiest way to clean a CPU fan is to use a can of compressed air 。

IBM 42X3805 CPU Fan

1.Shut down your PC and turn the power off. Remove the power cords from the rear of the tower and disconnect them from their power source.
2.Place the tower on top of an antistatic mat that has been laid on top of a table. You may also wear an antistatic wristband that is connected to an electrical ground, like a metal plumbing fixture. You’ll need to use the antistatic devices because static discharge from the floor or from your body could damage data stored on the computer.
3.Open the back of the computer case according to the directions in your owner’s manual. Some IBM 42X3805  CPU Fan will require screwdrivers for removal, while others will have buttons to depress before the back comes off.

4.Position your can of compressed air at least two inches from the surface that you are cleaning.

5.Clean the fan intakes and the exhaust using short puffs of canned air. The intakes are the grid-like structures that filter the air that comes into the fan.
6.Spray short puffs of canned air over the fan blades. To loosen clumps of dirt, hold your canned air at multiple angles rather than using long bursts of air. Make sure that you do not touch anything inside of the CPU tower.
7.Set the canned air aside and close the back of your CPU.
8.Clean the exterior of your CPU with a damp cloth that has been dipped in soapy, lukewarm water. Dry the surface with a soft towel.
9.Use a damp cloth to clean your power cords while they are disconnected from a power source. Dry the power cords with a soft towel.
10.Return the power cords to their correct positions and power up your computer.
1.While you are cleaning the IBM 42X3805 CPU Fan, clean the motherboard and other areas if needed, utilizing short bursts of canned air.

2.Minimize airborne dust in your computer room by cleaning the room regularly. You may also cover your equipment in order to keep dust out.
Warnings: If your CPU fan is not working, then you should only run your computer for a few minutes at a time to avoid overheating and damaging your stored data.

How to change a cpu fan

Upgrading your standard IBM 13N5182 CPU Fan has numerous benefits. It can extend the life of your CPU, moderate temperatures of a CPU that endures less than ideal thermal environments, give you more head room when over clocking, and give your case a little more visual appeal. Great for those that have a case featuring a clear side window. There seems to be an endless selection of aftermarket IBM 13N5182 CPU Fan to choose from, and your decision should be based on how much physical clearance you have (motherboard and case), motherboard socket type , your budget and what you want from the cooler (high performance, looks or a combination of both). The process of changing a CPU cooler can be a little daunting for some and if not done carefully can go wrong. The intention of this guide is to give beginners an insight into what’s involved when changing a CPU cooler;. in most cases the manufacturer will provide you will detailed instructions on how to install their product Think of this as a little preview before you dive right into it, and if you have any questions please feel free to ask on our forums.

IBM 13N5182 CPU Fan
Before the motherboard can be removed everything connected to it, excluding the RAM modules and actual CPU, has to be removed or unplugged. So your graphics card / s, PCI devices have to removed, SATA / IDE cables, audio cables, USB cables, motherboard power cables, front panel button and lights cables and any 3 pin case fans that are connected. This can be the scary part for anyone that has never attempted this before but if you take note of what goes where you should be fine. If you are unfamiliar with what cables with this make sure you have your motherboard and case manual with you for when you reinstall everything, then it will be just a case of matching everything back up. With the motherboard screws removed you can lift the motherboard out of the case and now you have full access to both sides of the motherboard.
For this particular motherboard there is four screws holding the front bracket to the standard backing plate. Remove the four screws and put all the standard retaining hardware aside.
Here’s the motherboard free from all standard IBM 13N5182 CPU Fan hardware. Before installing the new aftermarket CPU cooler you have to clean the surface of the CPU. To remove the old thermal compound uses a lint free cloth and some rubbing alcohol. Be careful not to smother the CPU in rubbing alcohol you’ll only need a small amount on the cloth.
Here’s the back of the motherboard ready to have the aftermarket backing plate fitted. Some coolers will come with double sided tape to hold the backing plate in place and some don’t.
Now it’s time to fit the retention bracket that comes with the aftermarket cooler, most of these coolers will come with a number of brackets to suit multiple socket types. Use the provided manual to ensure that you select the correct bracket for your socket type. As you can see in the above picture I have already fitted the brackets to suit the AMD socket.
The screws hold down the retention brackets and come through the motherboard then get fastened to the pre-threaded backing plate. (Each aftermarket cooler will have a different retention bracket setup) Before you get too excited and apply the thermal compound try test fitting the aftermarket cooler first to make sure you have the brackets in the right orientation.
Apply a thin layer of thermal compound to the CPU surface. Some aftermarket coolers will come with thermal compound that features an application brush, some will come in a squeeze tube and some just in a sachet. If you get the later two then just apply a small amount of thermal compound in the center of the CPU (approximately the size on a grain of rice) and spread the paste evenly across the CPU surface. Use a business card to spread out the thermal compound evenly across the CPU surface until you have a semi transparent layer.
The IBM 13N5182 CPU Fan will come with a protective sticker / cover over the heat sink contact area that you will have to remove prior to fitting. After that place the CPU cooler onto the retention bracket and fasten it down using the provided screws / bolts / thumb screws , ensure that you tighten each screw down evenly and don’t over tighten it or you may damage the mother board. Now it’s just a case of reversing the disassembly process you went through to remove the motherboard. Take your time here especially now that you have a larger CPU cooler in the way.

How to replace a broken laptop screen

A cracked screen can make a laptop unusable. Luckily, you can fix it. I will give you step-by-step instructions for replacing a broken laptop LCD panel.

Whether it’s cracked or has one too many blown pixels, a broken laptop display can stop you dead in your tracks. But with the right tools, a little technical know-how, and a bit of patience you can replace a damaged LCD.

Note: In this article, I show you how to replace the screen on an Dell JJ451 laptop screen, which has an LED-backlit LCD Depending on the make and model of your laptop, the internal hardware and specific steps may vary The general.. process however, should be the same.

Should you try this fix?

If accidental damage is covered under your laptop’s warranty, don’t do this fix yourself. Get the laptop repaired under the warranty.

I also suggest you watch my earlier video on what to know before trying to fix a smartphone or tablet. It’s not specifically about laptops, but the information is still relevant, and it will help you decided if you should repair the machine yourself or take it to a shop.

Lastly, understand that if you follow the instructions in this video, you do so at your own risk. Neither CNET nor any of its representatives can be held responsible for injury, damage, or loss of data.

Getting a replacement screen and tools

To begin your fix, you’ll need a few simple tools and a replacement LCD screen. For tools, I recommend a screwdriver with a variety of small bits, These are really handy for removing the trim that surrounds the screen.

As for the replacement LCD, you should be able to buy one either from the laptop manufacturer’s authorized parts dealer or a third-party supplier Depending the screen, they usually cost between $ 50 and $ 250 dollars -. More if it’s a high-end display or you buy an OEM replacement. Regardless, you’ll want to buy a new screen that matches your broken one exactly. The only sure way to do this is to remove the broken one.

Dell JJ451 Laptop Screen

1. Remove the screen bezel

After disconnecting the power supply and removing the battery, carefully examine the bezel around the screen. You’ll need to remove this bezel to access the screws that hold the LCD panel in place.

On this laptop, several rubber cushions hide screws, which hold the bezel in place. I’ll need to remove these cushions and the screws that are underneath.

With the hidden screws removed, I used a thin metal blade to pop loose one of the bottom corners and worked my way around the bezel with a plastic spudger.

Note: Your laptop may not have cushions or hidden screws The bezel may simply snap onto the lid or be held in place with double-side tape Just, adapt my instructions to fit your specific laptop…

Regardless of how you do it, you’ll need to completely remove the bezel.

2. Remove the broken Dell JJ451 Laptop Screen

With the LCD’s mounting brackets exposed, you can remove the screws that secure it to the lid. Then rest the display front-side-down on the case and disconnect its cable.

If your laptop was made before 2010 and has a LCD with fluorescent backlights, it will likely have two cables. But as this is an LED-backlit LCD, it only has one.

Now, locate the manufacturer’s label and note the model number. Using this information you should be able to buy an exact match for your broken screen.

3. Install the new Dell JJ451  Laptop Screen

Once your new screen arrives, unpack it and make sure it matches the old one.

If the dimensions, mounting brackets, and connector all match, you ready to install the screen. Connect the new panel to the cable, position the panel in the lid, and secure it using the appropriate screws.

4. Test the new LCD panel and reinstall the bezel

Before reattaching the bezel, it’s a good idea to test the new panel. Reconnect the battery and power cable and turn the machine on. If the display works, you can reattach the bezel and any external screws and rubber cushions. The repair is now complete .

As fixes go, this one isn’t too tough, but it does take a little patience and planning to make sure you get the right replacement screen.

How to Raise LENOVO G560 CPU Fan Speeds on a Lenovo Laptop

If your business requires you to do a lot of work from your Lenovo laptop, you’ve probably noticed an occasional issue with overheating. Running several intensive programs on your laptop can raise the CPU temperature, causing the LENOVO G560 CPU Fan to engage. You may need to raise the speed of the fans from time to time to rapidly cool the CPU and prevent a sudden shutdown. You can boost CPU fan speed from your laptop’s BIOS menu.

Step 1

Install the latest BIOS update on your laptop if necessary. This update can be downloaded free from the Lenovo Support page (link in Resources).

Step 2

Turn off your computer after you’ve installed the update. Turn the computer back on. When the boot screen appears, press and hold the “Delete” key to load the BIOS settings menu.

Step 3

Press the directional arrows on your keyboard to select “System Monitor.” Press “Enter.” Select “Fan Control” and then select “CPU Fan Speed Control.”

Step 4

Switch the control from “Automatic” to “Manual.” This allows you to manually control the CPU fan speed by percentage.

Step 5

Enter the desired percentage at which the fan should run. To run at full speed, enter “100″ for 100 percent. You should only run fans at full speed for long enough to effectively cool the CPU.

Step 6

Press the “F10″ key to reboot the computer and raise the speed of your CPU cooling fans. To return the fan speed to normal, repeat the above procedure but switch the LENOVO G560 CPU Fan control back to the “Automatic” setting.
